Adhyaya 76 — The Sixth Manvantara: Cakshusha Manu, the Child-Snatcher, and the Problem of Kinship
लेखसंज्ञास्तथैवान्ये तत्र मन्वन्तरे द्विज ।
पञ्चमे च गणे देवास्तत्संज्ञा ह्यमृताशिनः ॥
lekhasaṃjñās tathaivānye tatra manvantare dvija / pañcame ca gaṇe devās tatsaṃjñā hy amṛtāśinaḥ
噢,二次生者,在那一摩奴劫(Manvantara)中,亦有他众称为“勒迦”(Lekha)者。并且在第五众(gaṇa)中,诸天亦以此名相称,因为他们享食甘露(amṛta),故为不死。
The verse underscores the Purāṇic vision of ordered cosmic administration: even divine beings are grouped and named according to function and era, reflecting a structured cosmos rather than randomness.
Manvantara: it supplies details about the divine groups within a specific Manu’s reign.
‘Amṛta-eaters’ symbolizes deathlessness and continuity of cosmic order; the repeated ‘saṃjñā’ (designation) hints that names encode roles—mantra-like labels for cosmic functions.
