Dhaumya’s Enumeration of Eastern Tīrthas
Prācī-diś Tīrtha-kathana
Śarabhāṅgāśramaṁ gatvā śukasya ca mahātmanaḥ | na durgatim avāpnoti punāti ca kulaṁ naraḥ ||
Association with holy places and great sages—here, visiting the āśramas of Śarabhāṅga and Śuka—is presented as a powerful source of puṇya (merit) that prevents durgati (a bad spiritual outcome) and extends purification beyond the individual to the whole lineage.
Pulastya is describing the spiritual benefit of going to specific revered hermitages. The statement functions like a tīrtha-māhātmya (praise of sacred sites), emphasizing that pilgrimage to these sages’ āśramas yields protection from misfortune and confers sanctity upon one’s family line.
