Brāhmaṇas Follow into Exile and Śaunaka’s Instruction
अर्थकृच्छेषु दुर्गेषु व्यापत्सु स्वजनस्य च । शारीरमानसैर्द:खैर्न सीदन्ति भवद्विधा:,“अर्थसंकट, दुस्तर दुःख तथा स्वजनोंपर आयी हुई विपत्तियोंमें आप-जैसे ज्ञानी शारीरिक और मानसिक दु:खोंसे पीडित नहीं होते
arthakṛccheṣu durgeṣu vyāpatṣu svajanasya ca | śārīramānasair duḥkhair na sīdanti bhavadvidhāḥ ||
毗湿摩波耶那说道:“在财用困厄之时,在难以渡越的灾难之中,在祸患降临亲族之际,如你这般智慧而坚定的人,不会在身心之苦下沉沦。”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse praises the steadiness of the wise: even when confronted with material loss, severe crises, and troubles affecting one’s own people, they do not collapse inwardly. Ethical strength is shown as resilience and composure amid both physical pain and mental anguish.
The narrator Vaiśaṃpāyana comments on the character of the person being addressed, highlighting that such a noble/wise individual remains unshaken in the face of multiple kinds of adversity—personal, external, and familial—thereby setting a moral tone for the surrounding episode.
