Brāhmaṇas Follow into Exile and Śaunaka’s Instruction
अष्टाज्जां बुद्धिमाहुर्या सर्वाश्रेयोडभिघातिनीम् । श्रुतिस्मृतिसमायुक्तां राजन् सा त्वय्यवस्थिता,“राजन! योगके आठ अंग--यम, नियम, आसन, प्राणायाम, प्रत्याहार, धारणा, ध्यान और समाधिसे सम्पन्न, समस्त अमंगलोंका नाश करनेवाली तथा श्रुतियों और स्मृतियोंके स्वाध्यायसे भलीभाँति दृढ़ की हुई जो उत्तम बुद्धि कही गयी है, वह आपमें स्थित है
vaiśampāyana uvāca |
aṣṭāṅgāṃ buddhim āhur yā sarvaśreyodabhighātinīm |
śruti-smṛti-samāyuktāṃ rājan sā tvayy avasthitā ||
毗湿摩波耶那说道:“大王啊,那卓越的明辨被称为‘八支’——具足瑜伽之诸律——能摧破一切阻碍真实福祉之物。由《闻传》(Śruti)与《忆传》(Smṛti)的研习与指引而坚固,此智慧安住于你。”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
True welfare (śreyas) is protected by disciplined, eightfold yogic discernment (buddhi) that is grounded in Śruti and Smṛti; such wisdom removes harmful tendencies and obstacles and should be recognized as an inner strength already present in the righteous ruler.
The narrator Vaiśampāyana addresses a king and affirms that the king already possesses an exalted, scripturally grounded wisdom described as ‘eight-limbed,’ praising his capacity for self-governance and dharmic judgment.
