Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dāna as a practical expression of dharma: honoring brāhmaṇas and supporting the social-religious order through timely, substantial gifts. It also reflects the ideal that power and wealth should be used for righteous support, not mere accumulation.

At a clear sunrise, Janārdana (Kṛṣṇa) gives gold, clothing, cows, and horses to brāhmaṇas. The scene functions as an auspicious, dharma-centered act set against the tense backdrop of the Udyoga Parva, where preparations and negotiations around the coming war are underway.
