Systems of Knowledge and Vyāsa’s Nārāyaṇa-Origin
सम्भूता: सर्वसम्भारास्तस्मिन् राजन् महाक्रतौ । न तत्र पशुघातो5भूत् स राजैवं स्थितो5भवत्
sambhūtāḥ sarva-sambhārās tasmin rājan mahā-kratau | na tatra paśu-ghāto 'bhūt sa rājā evaṃ sthito 'bhavat ||
毗湿摩说道:“大王啊,在那场宏大的祭祀中,一切所需供具皆已备齐;然而其中并未宰杀任何牲畜。优波利遮罗王正以此意安住于仪轨之中——奉持合乎法(Dharma)且不害(Ahimsa)的祭祀之道。”
भीष्म उवाच
A sacrifice can be performed with full ritual completeness while avoiding animal slaughter; the king’s dharmic intention (ahimsa) is presented as a legitimate and commendable stance within ritual practice.
Bhīṣma describes a great sacrifice in which all preparations were made, but no animals were killed; King Uparicara (Vasu) deliberately maintained this non-violent mode of conducting the rite.
