Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
vyūḍhenāsurayuddhena hatvā daiteyadānavān | vyabhajat pṛthivīṁ kṛtsnāṁ yayātir nahuṣātmajaḥ ||

The verse suggests a dharmic arc of rulership: after protecting the realm through necessary force, a king must establish order through fair administration—here symbolized by dividing and assigning the earth (authority) in an organized manner rather than clinging to power.
Vāyu recounts an earlier episode about King Yayāti: he fought in a strategically arranged battle, defeated the Daityas and Dānavas, and then apportioned the whole earth—indicating a transition from conquest/defense to structured governance and succession.
