Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
marudgaṇā maruttasya yat somam apibaṁs tataḥ | devān manuṣyān gandharvān atyaricyanta dakṣiṇāḥ ||

The verse highlights the ethical ideal of extraordinary generosity in ritual and public giving: a righteous patron’s dakṣiṇā should be ample and honoring, reflecting dharma through abundance and respect for all recipients.
Vāyu describes Marutta’s famed sacrifice: when the Maruts partook of Soma, the scale of Marutta’s dakṣiṇās was so great that it was said to surpass what was given across divine, human, and Gandharva recipients—emphasizing the unmatched magnificence of the rite and the patron’s liberality.
