Indra’s defeat of Vṛtra; pursuit by Brahmahatyā; allocation of her abodes
apramādād bhayaṁ rakṣet dhvāsaṁ kṣetrajña-nīlanāt | icchāṁ dveṣaṁ ca kāmaṁ ca dhairyeṇa vinivartayet ||
Cultivate apramāda (vigilant non-negligence) to dispel fear, regulate and protect the breath through inward Self-contemplation (a yogic discipline akin to prāṇāyāma), and restrain desire, aversion, and lust through dhairya (steadfast patience).
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma and the means to peace after the war; here he gives practical inner disciplines—alertness, breath-control grounded in Self-awareness, and patient restraint of passions.
