Ātma-saṃyama-dharma: One-pointedness of Mind and Senses
uttānābhyāṃ ca pāṇibhyāṃ pādāv asya mṛdu spṛśet | dakṣiṇaṃ dakṣiṇenaiva savyaṃ savyena pīḍayet |
Proper reverence is a form of dharma: one should salute the guru with humility and restraint—touching the feet gently and correctly (right with right, left with left), emphasizing respect without causing discomfort.
Vyāsa is describing the correct physical procedure for offering pranāma to a guru/elder: extending both hands, gently touching and lightly pressing the teacher’s feet in a symmetrical, orderly manner.
