भूगुरुवाच अमितानां महाशब्दो यान्ति भूतानि सम्भवम् | ततस्तेषां महाभूतशब्दोडयमुपपद्यते
Translation
婆利古（Bhṛgu）说道：“牟尼啊！此五种‘元素’实为无量无边，故加以‘大’字，称为‘大种’。众生之生起皆由此而来；因此以‘大种（mahābhūta）’名之，理所当然。”
