Vṛddha-kanyā-carita and Balarāma’s Kurukṣetra Inquiry (वृद्धकन्या-चरितम् / कुरुक्षेत्रफल-प्रश्नः)
हीयेतां तावुभीौ क्षिप्रं स्थातां वा वैरिणावुभौ । तब वहाँ उन मुनियोंने कहा--'बेटा! तुम तो अभी बालक हो” (हम तुम्हारे शिष्य कैसे हो सकते हैं?) तब सारस्वतने पुनः उन मुनियोंसे कहा--“मेरा धर्म नष्ट न हो
hīyetāṃ tāv ubhau kṣipraṃ sthātāṃ vā vairiṇāv ubhau |
毗湿摩波耶那说道:“若有人以不义之法教授《吠陀》,又有人以不义之法受取那些吠陀真言,则二者必将迅速堕入卑下之境——否则,二人也会彼此结怨,成为仇敌。”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The transmission of sacred knowledge must be governed by dharma: if either the teacher teaches improperly or the student receives improperly, both suffer—either through moral/spiritual decline or through mutual hostility.
In the Sarasvata-related episode, the discussion turns to the ethics of Vedic instruction. The verse states the consequence of adharma in teaching/learning: the pair (teacher and recipient) quickly deteriorate or become enemies.
