The verse highlights how allegiance to a ruler or cause (here, the Madra king Śalya) binds followers to the moral and practical consequences of that leadership. In the battlefield frame of kṣatriya-dharma, warriors act decisively, yet the narrative invites reflection on how collective loyalty can lead many into destruction.
Sañjaya reports that Sātyaki (Yuyudhāna) begins cutting down the warriors aligned with Śalya, the king of Madra. Along with him, Draupadī’s sons (the Draupadeyas), described as great chariot-warriors, also commence the slaughter of those Madra-affiliated fighters.
