Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical gravity of war: even celebrated allies and noble warriors perish. It reinforces the Mahābhārata’s recurring insight that conflict, even when framed by duty, brings widespread suffering and irreversible loss.

Vaiśampāyana reports to King Janamejaya the deaths of key Pāṇḍava-aligned fighters—Uttamaujā, Yudhāmanyu, the Prabhadrakas, and warriors of Pāñcāla and Cedi—marking the mounting devastation as the war reaches its later, darker phase.
