Dhṛtarāṣṭra–Duryodhana Saṃvāda on Restraint and Rājānīti
Chapter 50
hitaṁ hi paramaṁ manye viduro yat prabhāṣate | kriyatāṁ putra tat sarvam etan manye hitaṁ tava ||
The verse elevates wise counsel—especially Vidura’s dharmic advice—as the highest welfare (hita). It urges prompt implementation of ethically sound guidance rather than ignoring it for pride, anger, or expediency.
Within the Sabha Parva’s courtly setting, Vaiśampāyana reports a statement in which a senior voice affirms Vidura’s counsel as supremely beneficial and instructs a ‘son’ (a younger authority figure) to put that advice into practice for his own good.
