अध्याय १: महाप्रस्थानारम्भः
The Commencement of the Great Departure
उत्सृज्याभरणान्यज्राज्जगृहे वल्कलान्युत । भीमार्जुनयमाश्चैव द्रौपदी च यशस्विनी
utsṛjyābharaṇāny ajrāj jagṛhe valkalāny uta | bhīmārjunayamāś caiva draupadī ca yaśasvinī ||
毗湿摩波耶那说：他们抛却一切饰物，国王披上树皮之衣；毗摩、阿周那、阎摩（即尤提史提罗）以及声名显赫的德罗帕蒂也同样如此。此举昭示他们有意舍弃王者身份与安逸，转而拥抱苦行，踏上最后的旅程，使行止与临终之际“离欲不著”的法义相契。
