Shloka 61

sañjaya uvāca | itthaṃ sūrya-indrayor vivādo 'bhavat | tau ubhau devaśreṣṭhau tatra pratyekaṃ pakṣe sthitau | bhārata! devānām asurāṇāṃ ca tatra dvau pakṣau babhūvatuḥ || sametau tau mahātmānau dṛṣṭvā karṇa-dhanañjayau | akampanta trayo lokāḥ saha devarṣi-cāraṇāḥ ||

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how a single human confrontation—when driven by deep loyalties and rival claims—can assume a cosmic dimension. Even divine beings take sides, suggesting that war tests dharma and shakes the moral and social order across all realms.

Sañjaya reports that Sūrya and Indra fall into dispute and stand on opposing sides; devas and asuras also split into factions. As Karna and Arjuna gather for their decisive battle, the three worlds tremble along with divine seers and celestial bards, underscoring the duel’s immense significance.
