Bhīṣma-parva Adhyāya 16 — Saṃjaya’s Boon, Bhīṣma’s Protection, and the Dawn Arraying of Armies
उदतिष्ठन्महाराज सर्व युक्तमशेषत: । सूर्योदये महत् सैन्यं कुरुपाण्डवसेनयो:,महाराज! सूर्योदय होते-होते कौरवों और पाण्डवोंकी वह सारी विशाल सेना सम्पूर्ण रूपसे युद्धके लिये तैयार हो उठी
udatiṣṭhan mahārāja sarva-yuktam aśeṣataḥ | sūryodaye mahat sainyaṃ kuru-pāṇḍava-senayoḥ ||
三阇耶说道:大王啊,日出之时,俱卢与般度两军的浩大兵势尽皆起立列阵——诸部无一不整备周全,待命而战。于是,一日之始便成了严整备战的号令;战争在周密编制与坚决意志中被推动向前。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined preparedness and total organization at the threshold of action. Ethically, it frames war not as chaos but as a deliberate, fully arranged undertaking—raising the implicit question of how such resolve should be guided by dharma.
Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that at sunrise both sides—the Kurus and the Pāṇḍavas—have their immense armies completely arrayed and ready to fight, marking the commencement of the day’s battle.
