Kṛṣṇa’s Departure, Auspicious Omens, and the Opening of the Uttaṅka Dialogue
vaiśampāyana uvāca | kṛṣṇaḥ suṣvāpa medhāvī dhanañjaya-sahāyavān | prabhātāyāṃ tu śarvaryāḥ kṛtvā paurvāhṇikīṃ kriyām bhojanake paścāt |
Even exalted figures like Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna model dhārmic order: rest at the proper time, perform obligatory morning rites, take food with restraint, and then approach the rightful king respectfully. The verse highlights that ethical life is sustained by disciplined daily conduct and reverence for legitimate authority.
After spending the night together, Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna wake at dawn, complete the morning observances, eat, and then go to Yudhiṣṭhira’s palace, where the king is seated with his ministers—setting the stage for counsel or royal deliberation.
