Vyāsa’s Inquiry into Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Tapas and the Identification of Vidura with Dharma

Educational Q&A

Even in moments of separation and sorrow, one should act according to kartavya (duty) and maryādā (propriety). The passage highlights disciplined conduct—receiving instruction, organizing departure, and returning to the capital with one’s dependents and forces—showing dharma as steadiness and order amid emotional upheaval.

After formal leave-taking and instructions about proper duties, the party prepares to move. The charioteers raise the call to yoke the chariots, animals cry and neigh, and then King Yudhiṣṭhira—along with the women of the household, his brothers, and soldiers—returns to Hastināpura.
