毗耶娑波衍那说:当那位俱卢之主如此对般度之子说话时,在场的所有武士都发出了一阵巨大的哀号。

The verse highlights the ethical and emotional aftermath of conflict: even when duty has been carried out, the consequences—grief, remorse, and collective sorrow—remain. The assembly’s lament underscores that dharma is not merely victory in war, but also the responsibility to face suffering, loss, and reconciliation.
As Dhṛtarāṣṭra, the Kuru king, speaks to Yudhiṣṭhira, the Pāṇḍava, the gathered warriors react with a loud cry of anguish. The words spoken are so affecting that the entire martial assembly breaks into lamentation.
