The Duty to Fulfill Promised Gifts

यां रात्रि जायते जीवो यां रात्रि च विनश्यति । एतस्मिन्नन्तरे यद्‌ यत्‌ सुकृतं तस्य भारत

bhīṣma uvāca |

yāṃ rātri jāyate jīvo yāṃ rātri ca vinaśyati |

etasminn antare yad yat sukṛtaṃ tasya bhārata bharatanandana |

毗湿摩说道:“婆罗多之裔啊,众生生于何夜,死于何夜——在此两夜之间,凡其一生所作诸般福业,皆被抹灭。其以祭祀、布施与苦行所积之功德,尽为破坏庄严誓约之罪所摧毁。”
