Offerings for Ancestors and Their Stated Results
घोरो विरूप: संवर्त: सुधन्वा चाष्टम: स्मृत: । एतेडष्टौ वहल्लिजा: सर्वे ज्ञाननिष्ठा निरामया:
ghoro virūpaḥ saṃvartaḥ sudhanvā cāṣṭamaḥ smṛtaḥ | ete ’ṣṭau vahallijāḥ sarve jñānaniṣṭhā nirāmayāḥ ||
瓦西什塔说道:“戈罗、毗卢帕、三伐尔塔,以及第八位苏檀瓦——他们在其中被如此铭记。这八位皆出自与火神阿耆尼相系的族脉,安住于灵性之智,远离诸苦。其生平昭示严谨的修持:以智慧为根,而非以世间奔逐为本,故能无病无忧。”
वसिष्ठ उवाच
The verse praises a model of life rooted in jñāna (spiritual knowledge): those established in wisdom are described as nirāmaya—free from the disturbances of illness, grief, and inner turmoil—suggesting that true well-being is tied to disciplined insight rather than external power.
Vasiṣṭha is listing a set of eight sages/figures by name, identifying the last four (Ghora, Virūpa, Saṃvarta, Sudhanvā) and characterizing the entire group as born in Agni’s line and devoted to knowledge, thereby situating them within a revered genealogical and ethical framework.
