Chapter 84: Brahmā’s Counsel on Tāraka, the Search for Agni, and the Genesis of Skanda
Kārttikeya
kiṃ ca kṛtvā para-sthānaṃ prāpnuvanti manīṣiṇaḥ | kena devāḥ pavitreṇa svargam aśnanti vā vibho prabho |
The verse frames a dharma-inquiry: which specific actions lead the wise to the highest spiritual destination, and what purifying practice sustains heavenly enjoyment even for the gods—highlighting karma, purity, and the hierarchy of goals (svarga versus the supreme state).
In the Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction setting, Bhīṣma continues a sequence of questions, asking about the deeds and purifying means that grant the wise the highest attainment and that enable the gods to partake of heaven.
