Phala of Vrata, Niyama, Svādhyāya, Dama, Satya, Brahmacarya, and Service (व्रत-नियम-स्वाध्याय-दम-सत्य-ब्रह्मचर्य-शुश्रूषा-फलप्रश्नः)
ऋषिरुद्दालकिर्दीक्षामुपगम्य तत: सुतम् । त्वं मामुपचरस्वेति नाचिकेतमभाषत,एक समय उद्दालक ऋषिने यज्ञकी दीक्षा लेकर अपने पुत्र नाचिकेतसे कहा--“तुम मेरी सेवामें रहो।”
ṛṣir uddālakir dīkṣām upagamya tataḥ sutam | tvaṃ mām upacarasveti nāciketam abhāṣata ||
毗湿摩说道:“圣者优陀罗迦(Uddālaka)既受祭仪之灌顶誓戒(dīkṣā),便对其子那支计多(Nāciketa)说道:‘汝当侍奉于我,常在我侧为役。’”
भीष्म उवाच
When one undertakes dīkṣā (a consecrated vow for sacrifice), one’s household and dependents are expected to support that sacred discipline; the verse highlights filial duty and respectful service as part of dharma.
Uddālaka begins the sacrificial consecration and instructs his son Nāciketa to stay close and attend upon him, setting the scene for the well-known Nāciketa-related tradition within a dharma-focused discourse.
