पाणिग्रहणमन्त्राणां निष्ठा स्यात्‌ सप्तमे पदे । पाणिग्रहस्य भार्या स्याद्‌ यस्य चाद्ि: प्रदीयते । इति देयं वदन्त्यत्र त एन॑ निश्चयं विदु:

pāṇigrahaṇamantrāṇāṁ niṣṭhā syāt saptame pade | pāṇigrahasya bhāryā syād yasya cādiḥ pradīyate | iti deyaṁ vadanty atra te enaṁ niścayaṁ viduḥ |

毗湿摩说:“婚礼咒辞的约束之力,于七步礼(saptapadī)第七步方告圆满;至此夫妻之分才得确立。女子在立誓并以水为供而正式被交付于某男子时,便成为那男子之妻;唯此人是她的 pāṇigrahītā——执其手而成婚者。博学之士正是如此阐明‘施女礼’(kanyādāna)的程序,并以此为定论。”
