मनुष्यान्‌ शिवमन्विच्छंस्तस्मादेष शिव: स्मृत: । अथवा उनकी जटाका रूप धूम्र वर्णका है

Transliteration

manuṣyān śivam anvicchan tasmād eṣa śivaḥ smṛtaḥ |

Translation

风神（Vāyu）说道：“因为他为人类寻求吉祥与福祉（śiva），所以人们记念他为‘湿婆（Śiva）’。”经文又解释：由于他头上的结发（jaṭā）呈烟灰之色，故称‘杜尔阇提（Dhūrjaṭi）’；又因为他以种种作为成就众生的提升，愿一切众生得善利，故其名为‘湿婆’实至名归。
