Rudra-Śiva: Names, Two Natures, and the Logic of Epithets
ṣaḍ imāni tu karmāṇi provāca bhuvaneśvaraḥ | vṛttyarthaṃ brāhmaṇānāṃ vai śṛṇu dharmānū sanātanān |
The verse introduces a normative dharma framework: Brahmins are to sustain themselves through a set of six sanctioned duties, presented as ancient and authoritative, aligning livelihood with ethical order rather than arbitrary gain.
Śrī Maheśvara begins an instruction by announcing that the ‘Lord of the worlds’ has prescribed six traditional occupations for Brahmins and invites the listener to hear these enduring dharmic rules.
