Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ
Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony
śūraṃ balavatāṃ śreṣṭhaṃ kāntarūpam akalmaṣam | ātmatulyaṃ mama sutaṃ prayacchācyuta māciram ||
The verse frames an ethical ideal for progeny: strength and heroism are sought, but explicitly joined to purity (akalmaṣa) and excellence (śreṣṭha). It suggests that power is to be valued only when aligned with moral stainlessness and worthy character.
Vāsudeva addresses Acyuta in the mode of a supplicant, requesting a boon: a son equal to himself—valiant, foremost among the strong, handsome, and sinless—and urges that the gift be granted without delay.
