Sāma (Sāntva) and Dāna: The Brāhmaṇa’s Conciliatory Release from a Rākṣasa
आप शुद्धचित्त हैं, इसलिये आपके समागमसे मुझे यह महान् लाभ पहुँचा है। यह बात मैं समृद्धिशाली तपवाले महर्षिके समान बुद्धिसे बारंबार विचारकर प्रत्यक्ष देखता हूँ ।।
maitreya uvāca | āpa śuddhacittāḥ, tasmāt bhavatāṃ samāgamena mama ayaṃ mahān lābhaḥ prāptaḥ | etad ahaṃ samṛddhiśālinaḥ tapasaḥ mahārṣeḥ samānabuddhyā bāraṃbāraṃ vicārya pratyakṣaṃ paśyāmi || api no darśanād eva bhavato ’bhyudayo bhavet | manye bhavatprasādo ’yaṃ; tad dhi karma svabhāvataḥ ||
弥勒耶说道:“你心地清净,因此与您相会,使我获益甚大。我以一位苦行功德丰盛的大圣者之明辨之智,反复思量此事,便见其昭然在目。确实,仅凭得见你一面,便可能令我们获得巨大的福祉与提升。我认为你赐予的这次觐见乃是你深厚的恩泽;而这善果亦因你垂恩之力,自然而然地成就。”
मैत्रेय उवाच
Association with the pure-minded and the grace (prasāda) of the virtuous are themselves sources of uplift (abhyudaya). The verse emphasizes humility and the ethical idea that good outcomes can arise naturally through contact with sanctity and benevolence.
Maitreya addresses a revered figure, expressing that merely meeting and receiving their audience is a great gain. He states that he has reflected on this repeatedly and sees directly that such darśana can bring welfare, attributing the resulting auspiciousness to the other’s grace.
