Adhyāya 122 — Śruta-vṛtta-yukta Brāhmaṇa and the Ethics of Dāna
Maitreya–Vyāsa Saṃvāda
rājaputra sukhaṃ prāpya kratūṃś caivāptadakṣiṇān | atha modiṣyase svarge brahmabhūto 'vyayaḥ sukhī ||
The verse presents a graded spiritual trajectory: righteous enjoyment and duty in life, meritorious ritual action with proper giving (dakṣiṇā), attainment of heavenly reward, and finally transcendence of all rewards through realization of Brahman—imperishable, stable bliss beyond temporary pleasures.
Vyāsa addresses a prince and foretells his future: he will enjoy royal happiness, perform Vedic sacrifices with appropriate gifts, experience heavenly joy, and ultimately reach the highest state—becoming established in Brahman and tasting inexhaustible bliss.
