Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
भृत्यातिथिजनश्चवापि गृहे पर्यशितो मया । मात्सर्यात् स्वादुकामेन नृशंसेन बुभुक्षता
bhṛtyātithijanaś cāpi gṛhe paryaśito mayā | mātsaryāt svādukāmena nṛśaṃsena bubhukṣatā ||
我在家中自顾自吃得饱足，纵然仆从、宾客与依附于我的人都在场。因嫉妒驱使，只贪口腹之快，又被残忍与饥欲所硬化，我竟不先供食于来我家者与倚赖我者，便先行饱餐。
