A boon (vara) once granted carries binding force and real consequences; therefore, both the giver and receiver must act with foresight and restraint, since divine or moral commitments shape political and cosmic order.
Bhīṣma recounts a mythic episode in which the Grandsire (Brahmā) summons Indra and speaks to the gods, stating that due to a boon he granted, Nahuṣa has attained sovereignty—setting the stage for the well-known account of Nahuṣa’s rise and its implications.
