Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
नग्नजिन्नाम राजासीद् भुवि विख्यातविक्रम: । एकचक्र इति ख्यात आसीद्ू यस्तु महासुर:
Vaiśampāyana uvāca |
Nagnajit-nāmā rājāsīd bhuvi vikhyāta-vikramaḥ |
Ekacakra iti khyāta āsīd yas tu mahāsuraḥ ||
毗湿摩波耶那说道:“在大地上有一位名为‘那格那吉多(Nagnajit)’的国王,以勇武闻名。又有那被称作‘独轮(Ekacakra)’的大阿修罗,也在此(人间)降生为王,并以同一名号为世所称颂。本段叙事将若干强盛的君王描绘为阿修罗的化现,意在昭示:非凡之力若不受达摩约束,便会成为世间恐惧与紊乱的根源。”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The passage implies that mere strength and fame are ethically ambiguous: great power may arise from Asuric origins and, without dharma, can threaten social order. It cautions readers to judge rulers not only by valor but by righteous conduct.
Vaiśampāyana is listing rulers on earth and identifying some of them as Asuras who took birth as kings. In this verse he names King Nagnajit as famous for valor and notes that the great Asura called Ekacakra is known in the human realm under that name.
