Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
प्रणष्टं भारतं वंशं स भूयो धारयिष्यति । एतत् सोमवच: श्रुत्वा तथास्त्विति दिवौकस:
praṇaṣṭaṃ bhārataṃ vaṃśaṃ sa bhūyo dhārayiṣyati | etat somavacaḥ śrutvā tathāstv iti divaukasaḥ |
毗湿摩波耶那说道:“他将再度复兴并扶持那已遭毁坏的婆罗多族裔。”听闻苏摩之言,诸天答曰:“如是(Tathāstu),”以示允诺。
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even when a righteous lineage appears devastated, dharma is envisioned as continuing through responsibility-bearing successors; divine assent (“tathāstu”) underscores the moral weight of preserving social and dynastic order after catastrophe.
Soma makes a prophetic statement that a future heir will sustain the ruined Bharata line; the gods hear this and formally confirm it by saying “tathāstu,” signaling acceptance of the destined restoration.
