Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
दिनक्षये महाबाहुर्मया भूय: समेष्यति । एकं वंशकरं पुत्र वीर॑ वै जनयिष्यति
dinakṣaye mahābāhur mayā bhūyaḥ sameṣyati | ekaṃ vaṃśakaraṃ putraṃ vīra vai janayiṣyati ||
日暮之时,这位臂力无双的英雄将再与我相会。他将只生下一位英勇的儿子以续宗祧——在毁灭之后,复兴并承载家族血脉之人。
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even when destruction is foretold, the text frames the continuation of a righteous lineage as a stabilizing dharmic necessity—suggesting that providence preserves a seed of renewal amid catastrophe.
A prophecy-like statement says that by day’s end the mighty-armed hero will rejoin the speaker, and that he will beget a single heroic son who will carry forward the family line after widespread loss.
