Garuḍa–Śakra Saṃvāda and the Retrieval of Amṛta
Sautir uvāca: tataḥ prasādayāmāsa Kaśyapaḥ putra-kāraṇāt | Vālakhilyān mahābhāgāṁs tapasā hata-kalmaṣān ||
Desires such as progeny are to be pursued through dharmic means—humility, reverence toward the spiritually accomplished, and reliance on tapas and blessing rather than coercion or adharma. The verse also underscores the ethical ideal that true authority comes from purification (hata-kalmaṣa) gained by austerity.
After a preceding development, Kaśyapa, wishing for a son, approaches and propitiates the Vālakhilya sages—renowned ascetics purified by tapas—seeking their favor and likely their blessing or assistance in fulfilling his aim.
