Bhīma’s Search for Water and the Forest Halt
क्षात्रेण च बलेनास्य नापश्यत् स पराजयम् | हीनं विदित्वा चात्मानं ब्राह्ेण स बलेन तु
kṣātreṇa ca balenāsya nāpaśyat sa parājayam | hīnaṃ viditvā cātmānaṃ brāhmeṇa sa balena tu |
毗舍摩波耶那说道:德鲁帕陀并未料到,仅凭王者的武力与兵戈之势,竟难以预见德罗那的败北。自知在婆罗门之力——苦行与神圣威能——上不及对方,他便行走四方,希求得一位强大的儿子,足以战胜德罗那。与此同时,德罗那将北般遮罗名为阿希恰特罗的国土纳入掌控。
वैशग्पायन उवाच
The verse contrasts kṣātra-bala (martial power) with brāhma-bala (spiritual/ascetic potency), implying that victory is not secured by force alone; insight, merit, and higher means (such as tapas and mantra) can decisively shape outcomes and political realities.
Drupada recognizes that he cannot defeat Drona through ordinary military strength and therefore seeks a powerful son as a means to overcome him; at the same time, Drona consolidates power by taking control of Ahicchatra in northern Pañcāla.
