Educational Q&A

Even in conflict, dharma requires restraint: avoid needless slaughter, honor kinship ties, and fulfill obligations—here, the guru’s due—through proportionate action rather than indiscriminate violence.

After defeating Drupada’s side, Bhima is inclined toward destroying the opposing force. Arjuna intervenes, noting Drupada’s connection to the Kuru heroes, and instructs that instead of massacring the army they should capture and deliver Drupada to Drona as gurudakṣiṇā.
