Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva-puja procedure to the sages of Naimisharanya)
It prescribes purification and sanctification of the worship environment and the deity through draping the space and performing abhiṣeka, emphasizing reverence to Pati (Shiva) as the central act of Linga-puja.
By naming him Mahādeva and Umāpati, it points to Shiva as the Supreme Lord (Pati) whose grace liberates the paśu (bound soul), and as inseparable from Shakti (Umā) in the economy of worship and blessing.
Ritual abhiṣeka (bathing) with ghṛta and related substances, alongside consecration of the shrine-space—external disciplines that support inner purification in the Shaiva path, preparing the paśu to approach Pati.
