It frames Liṅga-arcana as the defining marker of allegiance to Pati (Śiva): when the Daityas accept pāṣaṇḍa, the immediate consequence is the abandonment of Mahēśvara and the Liṅga—signaling spiritual decline and deeper bondage (pāśa).
By contrasting Mahēśvara with pāṣaṇḍa, the verse implies Śiva-tattva as the rightful supreme refuge (Pati) whose worship sustains dharma; turning away from Him is portrayed as a fall from truth into delusion.
Liṅga-arcana (ritual worship of the Liṅga) is highlighted negatively by its abandonment—implying that steadfast Śiva-pūjā (and, by extension, Pāśupata-aligned discipline) is essential for the pashu’s purification and liberation.
