The Song of the Avantī Brāhmaṇa (Avanti-brāhmaṇa-gītā): Mind as the Root of Suffering and Equanimity Amid Insult
कथयन्ति महत्पुण्यमितिहासमिहोद्धव । तमहं वर्णयिष्यामि निबोध सुसमाहित: ॥ ४ ॥
kathayanti mahat puṇyam itihāsam ihoddhava tam ahaṁ varṇayiṣyāmi nibodha su-samāhitaḥ
乌达婆啊,关于此事流传着一则极其清净有大功德的故事。我将为你叙述;请专心谛听。
The Lord will now relate to Uddhava a historical account which teaches how to tolerate the insults of others.
This verse states that a “greatly meritorious” sacred history is told in the world, and Kṛṣṇa Himself presents it as spiritually purifying when heard properly.
Because the forthcoming narrative contains deep instruction; attentive, concentrated hearing is required to grasp its meaning and receive its transformative benefit.
Set aside distractions, hear or read with focused attention, and treat the text as sacred instruction rather than casual information—this “composed listening” is the practical takeaway of the verse.
