श्रुत्वैतद् रुरुधुर्भूपा नयन्तं पथि कन्यकाम् । भग्नवीर्या: सुदुर्मर्षा यदुभिर्गोवृषै: पुरा ॥ ५३ ॥

Because they heard the maiden was being taken away and, driven by wounded pride and rivalry, they tried to block the path and challenge the Yadus.
