Uddhava Meets the Gopīs: Bhramara-gītā and Kṛṣṇa’s Message of Separation
anyathā go-vraje tasya smaraṇīyaṁ na cakṣmahe snehānubandho bandhūnāṁ muner api su-dustyajaḥ
This verse states that the bond created by affection for one’s relatives is extremely difficult to abandon—even for a sage—highlighting how powerful emotional ties can be.
In the mood of intense separation (viraha), she speaks with wounded love and irony, expressing that without Krishna’s presence, nothing in Vraja feels worth remembering.
Recognize the strength of emotional attachment, and consciously redirect affection toward higher, lasting values—especially devotion—rather than pretending detachment is easy.
