devahūtim adāt tāta kardamāyātmajāṁ manuḥ tat-sambandhi śruta-prāyaṁ bhavatā gadato mama
This verse states that Svāyambhuva Manu gave his daughter Devahūti in marriage to Kardama Muni, and that the related history had already been largely narrated and heard.
In the ongoing dialogue, Maitreya acknowledges that much of the Devahūti–Kardama account has been covered in prior narration, and he is situating the listener within the broader genealogical discussion.
It encourages attentive listening to sacred teachings and recognizing continuity in learning—building understanding step by step rather than repeatedly restarting the same topics.
