Aditi’s Payo-vrata and Viṣṇu’s Promise to Appear as Her Son
Prelude to Vāmana
namas te pṛśni-garbhāya veda-garbhāya vedhase tri-nābhāya tri-pṛṣṭhāya śipi-viṣṭāya viṣṇave
This verse models bhakti through reverent stuti—Aditi addresses Viṣṇu by His divine names and cosmic attributes, expressing surrender to the Lord as the source of the Vedas and the all-pervading protector.
Aditi glorifies Viṣṇu’s transcendence and immanence: as Trivikrama He measures the worlds, and as śipiviṣṭa He pervades and enters all beings—invoking the Lord’s power to intervene in the Devas’ crisis.
Remember the Divine through meaningful names and qualities, and cultivate trust that the Supreme both transcends the world and supports it from within—turning anxiety into prayerful dependence and steadiness.
