Sukta 3
पश्चात् पुरस्तादधरादुतोत्तरात् कविः काव्येन परि पाह्यग्ने । सखा सखायमजरो जरिम्णे अग्ने मर्ताँ अमर्त्यस्त्वं नः
paścā́t purástād adharā́d utóttarát kavíḥ kā́vyena pári pāhy agne | sakhā́ sakhā́yam ajáro jarímṇe agne mártāṃ amártyas tváṃ naḥ ||
From behind, from before, from below and from above, do thou, O Agni, the Sage, with thy inspired craft, protect us round about. A friend protecting his friend against decay—O Agni, immortal, thou [guardest] us mortals.
从后方、从前方、从下方、也从上方——阿耆尼啊,圣智者(kavi),以你受启的妙艺(kāvya),环护我们周遍。朋友护持朋友,使其免于衰败:阿耆尼啊,你是不死者,而我们是凡人——请你守护我们。
