Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Avatara-Katha","secondary_vidya":"Cosmology","practical_application":"Explains key family relations in the Sagara cycle (two maternal lines; 60,000 sons; Asamañjasa), which later motivates cosmological/ritual consequences (ocean formation; ancestral liberation themes).","sutra_style":true}

Concept: Progeny and lineage as instruments of both worldly expansion and karmic consequence; numbers (60,000) signal collective fate.

Application: In teaching, highlight how mass action by descendants can amplify dharmic/adharmic outcomes, preparing for the later episode of digging and burning.

Khanda Section: Puranic Genealogies (Vamsha-Charita)

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

FAQs

No ritual or technical vidyā is taught here; the verse functions as vamśa-charita (dynastic record), preserving names, parentage, and succession details.

By cataloging royal genealogies and lineage links (mothers, fathers, notable offspring), it complements the Agni Purana’s wide scope—serving as a historical-structural index alongside its sections on ritual, polity, medicine, and arts.

The implicit significance is śraddhā in sacred history: remembering righteous lineages and their continuity is treated in Purāṇic tradition as meritorious and supportive of dharma-oriented kingship and ancestral reverence.
