FAQs

It identifies authoritative Vedic śākhās (recensions) and their transmitter-sages, which is essential for correct Veda-recitation lineages and the legitimacy of ritual application tied to specific schools.

By cataloging Vedic branches and teacher lineages (Yājñavalkya, Vyāsa, Jaimini), it functions like a reference index—typical of the Agni Purāṇa’s wide-ranging, knowledge-compendium style.

Honoring authentic guru–śākhā transmission supports śruti-based practice; fidelity to recognized lineages is traditionally held to preserve ritual purity (śuddhi) and ensure the intended spiritual merit (puṇya) of Vedic acts.
