Chapter 283 — Mantras as Medicine (मन्त्ररूपौषधकथनम्)
nārāyaṇañca duḥsvapne dāhādau jalaśāyinaṃ hayagrīvañca vidyārthī jagatsūtiṃ sutāptaye balabhadraṃ śaurakārye ekaṃ nāmārthasādhakam

It teaches applied devatā-smaraṇa (name-remembrance) as a practical upāya: specific divine names are prescribed for specific situations—bad dreams, fire-related danger, pursuit of learning, desire for offspring, and acts requiring valor.
It functions like a compact index of applied religious practice, mapping concrete life-situations to targeted deity-forms—showing the Agni Purana’s catalog-like approach to ritual utility alongside theology.
It frames divine-name remembrance as a purifying, protective act that redirects fear or desire into dhārmic reliance on the divine, thereby mitigating inauspiciousness and supporting righteous aims (vidyā, progeny, courage).
